(Doug and Shara the day they bought the farm!)

It all started with a duck...

For years we had dreamed of one day having a farm sanctuary, but that dream always felt very distant. After all, we had been trapped in the hustle and bustle of big city life for such a long time. When the pandemic started, we were living in Los Angeles, and between the lockdowns, the fires and the earthquakes, we decided it was time to finally make a change. We moved back to Shara's small hometown of Alachua, about 30 minutes outside of Gainesville, Florida. Eventually we were able to buy a little house with about 7 acres of land, but even then starting a farm sanctuary was not yet on our minds.

Until we met a duck...

You see, the place we bought already had a coop for ducks and 6 acres of fenced pasture for horses. The day we moved in, Shara's mother noticed a duck on our dirt road on the other side of the fence. We managed to usher her back to her coop. The previous owners said to go ahead and consider it a "housewarming gift". Okay! we said. After some furious researching, we learned that ducks suffer greatly if they don't have friends. So we adopted a companion Pekin duck, Loki, for our original duck, Loofah. Then came another duck. And another. Then 4 sheep. Then... well, you get the idea! Fast forward to today and we now have have six very rambunctious and lovable ducks, two hilarious potbelly pigs, two beautiful big cows (sisters) and ten amazing hair sheep, four of which were born right here on our farm!

Then all that was missing was a name...

Whenever we moved to a new apartment (which was almost every year!) we had a tradition of watching every season of the show The Office. If you've ever watched the show, you surely remember the character Dwight Schrute (played by Rainn Wilson), and his famous beet farm, Schrute Farms. You see where we're going with this. Snoot Farms was born and we promised ourselves that any animal that arrives here will live out its days in as much peace as we can provide. Thanks for joining us on our journey!
